Piano Fase

I make reference to this work in my Key Contexts essay, and something in it obviously started me thinking about how I, as a musician, could collaborate with a dancer. Particularly on a practical level, the achievability of using just one instrument, a piano, to provide enough for a dancer to work with is a real inspiration, as I am able to play/record on my piano at home, which bypasses any need for studio time.

Reich’s use of simple repeating patterns is also seems to fit with the form of an installation along the lines of Thick Time, which generates duration and a feeling of evolution from repeating fixed media by utilising the affects of asynchrony.
